This pattern uses back post double crochet (bpdc) there are several good tutorials online of how to complete this stitch, as well as Youtube videos that will walk you through it. It is expected that you know this stitch and are comfortable with it before beginning the pattern.
Items Needed:
2oz. of WW yarn
H hook (or hook needed to obtain gauge)
Note:This hat was made using a lighter WW yarn with a lot of drape. If you use a stiffer more bulky yarn the bpdc ridges will be much more pronounced than in the picture. Some like this effect, others do not. If you wish to leave out the ridges you can substitute dc for the bpdc throughout the pattern.
Gauge:7 dc stitches should be 2" across. 2 rows of dc should be 1" high
Finished Size:Unstretched circumference is 22" but the hat can easily stretch to larger sizes. It's supposed to be more of a loose fit since the style is more dressy than beanie-style hats, so don't worry if it's a bit larger than your head.
1. In Adjustable Ring: ch 2 (counts as first dc at the beginning of every round) dc 9 times in ring, slip to ch 2, (10 dc)
2. ch 2, dc in same space, inc every dc, slip to ch 2 (20 dc)
3. ch 2, inc every other dc, slip to ch 2 (30 dc)
4. ch 2, inc every 3rd dc, slip to ch 2 (40 dc)
5. ch 2, inc every 4th dc, slip to ch 2 (50 dc)
6. ch 2, inc every 5th dc, slip to ch 2 (60 dc)
7. ch 2, inc every 6th dc, slip to ch 2 (70 dc)
8. ch 1, sc in same space, sc in next 14 dc, bpdc in next 40 dc, sc in next 15 dc, slip to first sc (30 sc, 40 bpdc)
9. ch 2, dc in every stitch, slip to ch 2 (70 dc)
10. ch 1, sc in same space, sc in next 13 dc, bpdc in next 42 dc, sc in next 14 dc, slip to first sc (28 sc, 42 bpdc)
11. ch 2, dc in every stitch, slip to ch 2 (70 dc)
12. ch 1, sc in same space, sc in next 12 dc, bpdc in next 44 dc, sc in next 13 dc, slip to first sc (26 sc, 44 bpdc)
